Beta Confusion!

Well I have great news (I think). My beta level is 1000. I didn't know that was even possible? I am not sure if there is a difference in measurement (Maybe we do it differently in Canada) but I was expecting something around 100. I have been looking around to try to find what measurement the HCG hormone is usually measured in and to find out if different clinics do it differently. Has anyone had an HCG level of 1000 or around that at 11dp3dt? The nurse from my clinic said that it looked good but the true test would be to see if this increases to 1500 by Saturday (I found this surprising too because I thought it was supposed to double every day). Anyways, I am happy that it is positive and I am excited to see what happens Saturday. Actually my assigned IVF nurse was a bit bothered by me coming in early. She kept telling me that they usually don't give results this early because they want to be sure. This also seem different than in the United Sates because many of my blogging sisters have had tests done in this time frame.
Hurry up Saturday!

  1. First off Congrats! I am so excited for you! I have been reading but haven't commented.

My husband is Canadian but we met and married in the US since he has lived here for over 10 yrs. My SIL is a nurse in Canada so I can ask her...I have a 2 yr old son and 1 yr old daughter after IVF (severe male factor issues) and my clinic always looked for 50 or higher 9dp5dt.

It should ideally double every 2-3 days, but a min of a 60 percent rise is considered normal.

  2. Thanks Kel, I would appreciate it. I tried to link to your blog but couldn't!

  3. Wow - that's a great number! Yes, it's high (perhaps twins?) but that's great. It means a baby or two has nestled in deep, and is holding on! I agree with Kel24 - a minimum of 60% rise every 48 hours is good. Anything above that is gravy, and anything slightly below that could still be ok, depending on what happens later. Betas are torture - every couple days, trying to guess numbers. Hang in there!!! So happy for you!

  4. wow :)...I think mine was around 140ish (at 14dpo which is the same as 11dp3dt) so I think that is a GREAT beta! I got an ultrasound at around 5 weeks 6 days with both pregnancies which would be about two weeks from now for you.

  5. Awesome beta!!! Mine was 172 12dp3t (15dpo) with twins! They say it should double every 48-72 hours. I think mine doubled every 30ish hour or so. Hang in there! Beta's are torture! Oh yeah, I had my first u/s just shy of 7 weeks.

  6. I am sure mine must be in a different unit of measurement, unless I am going to be octomom

  7. Sounds like great numbers - I had the number average for triplets - thank goodness though there was only one. I think though you clearly have a good strong pregnancy. Congratulations

  8. Sorry I don't have a blog! I emailed my SIL but she is a L and D nurse so it may be a bit before I hear back.

  9. My beta was 369 and i can't remember how many days past i was but i have seen them way up there at 1200+ and they have ended up with a single where as I am having twins so save yourself the anxiety about wondering how many are in there! You definitely have one cooking nicely!

  11. I agree with the other gals. It should double every 2-3 days. I was tested at 13dp5dt and my beta was 1,973 (twins). I would say your number is high and strong. Maybe indicates more than one?!

  12. I always had mine drawn that early (I could get a faint positive at 8dpo). My doctor liked to see at least 60% increase every two days.

  13. My beta was 2900ish at 14dp3dt...but I was having twins...not sure if that helps. Can't wait to see how Saturdays numbers look!
