Yep it's a Birthmark

Let me start by saying my boys are perfect to me in every way.  I love them fussy pants and all.  I think they are the cutest babies ever to be born (I know I am biased) and I wouldn't change them for the world.  So why does it bother me when people ask me about Hudson's birthmarks.  It certainly doesn't bother me that he has two strawberry birthmarks (Hemangioma), in fact they make him unique and himself so I love them.  I just hate being asked about them constantly.  I know it is such a silly complaint and there are parent's who have children with serious physical disfigurements so I don't want to minimize their struggle.  I just think it is so rude to comment on them.  I would never ask questions or comment on anyones appearance unless they asked.  Yes I compliment outfits and haircuts but I would never point out any anomalies.  That is why when I am constantly being bombarded with rude people asking what caused them and why he has them I get annoyed.  I worry that he will be self conscious of them and in turn his self esteem will be impacted.  Hubby assured me that boys aren't as sensitive and I have nothing to worry about.  I definitely don't want him to sense my annoyance when people ask because that might make him think there is something to be ashamed of I just have to note how gross I think people are (kids excluded). It even further annoys me when they tell me he is still cute despite them. Um people, they are just freakin birthmarks.  I just want to point out their flaws (big nose, fat ass etc) and ask them why they have them and what caused them.  I know I am being petty but don't mess with my kids people.
Just had to vent.

  1. Olivia has a hemangioma on her lip. It came when she was about 3 months old and now is finally not the first thing others seem to notice when you first look at her. I totally feel you pain. I can't tell you how many times we were asked, "What happened to her lip?" "Did she bite her lip?" (keep in mind she didn't have teeth at the time), "Awwww, did she fall and bump her lip?" I know that some people were generally concerned, but seriously, it's so rude to ask questions like that if you're a stranger. O's strawberry is super small now and it was a decent size at it's peak growth. Maybe your little guy's hemangiomas will shrink so they're not the business of everyone else's. Your little guys are so incredibly cute, btw, ;)

    1. I can't believe the nerve of people (and stupidity!). My doctor said they should grow until he is 2 and then will start shrinking. I know it isn't a big deal (I have a friend with a birth mark across her entire face and I don't even notice it) I just hate that people ask.
      Thanks for the support!

  2. MV has a mark of some sort on his right eyelid the doctor said "it's a birthmark it will go away" lol whatever that means... It's not always visible in photos but you can see it in person and it bothers me when people ask about it. I find myself getting defensive sometimes like they have pointed out a flaw which I know it's not but I can't help it. His gets really red when he is tired which does help us out sometimes when trying to figure out what's wrong lol

I don't think I've ever noticed any birthmarks on either of your guys, they are both just so handsome that's all I see :)

    1. Thanks for the comment, and I am glad I am not the only one who finds it rude. Why do people feel the need to comment? I just don't know what response they are looking for?
Anyways, thanks for the support and MV is so cute it hurts!

  3. That would really annoy me too. I have birthmarks that go from the base of my neck to my lower back and I got the stupidest comments about them growing up. My friend's daughter has a strawberry birthmark right next to her eye and people are always commenting on it or (like you experience) telling her that she's still beautiful despite the birthmark. I think it's very rude.

    1. I am glad I am not alone in thinking it is rude. I seriously don't get how people think it is appropriate to comment. I need to get some sort of witty comeback. Maybe it is just a natural reaction to ask but people should think first!
Did the comments about your birthmark hurt your feeling when you were younger? I think I took one too many psychology classes but I am worried about my little guy having a complex over his. Obviously there are a ton of ways to help build self esteem I just wondered if I should be sensitive to it or just ignore the a-holes.
