Well we are almost out of the twos and I have to say I loved being the mom of two year olds. What a fun age. Watching you grow and start talking has really taken our relationship to a new level and was so much fun. There isn't much cuter than your 2 year holding your hand or telling you they love you. I hear three is much more difficult and I believe it because for the most part now you listen to what we say and follow our instructions. I know that can't continue to happen.

Hudson
You now prefer to be called Bear. Basically your name has morphed from Huddy Buddy, to Huddy Bear, to Hud Bear, to Bear. It is funny how that kind of thing happens. You are still my little shadow and love your mom. You also have a new best friend Brooke who mommy watches during the day to help supplement our bills. You call her a princess and look out for her. She was sick this week with a double ear infection and woke you up out of your sleep. You called for me to get you and when I got to your room you said "mom, I need to get to Brooke, she needs me, My Brookie needs me". You rubbed her back and cuddled up close to her and told her she was going to be okay. You are the sweetest little guy I know.
You have just started getting a bit naughty though. I guess it is the almost being 3 thing. You tell me know and test my authority. Too bad you are so adorable and I have a hard time not smiling and giving in.
Diapers
The most amazing thing happened last month. A few weeks before Christmas you decided to potty train yourself. I had intended to wait until you were 3, thinking it would be quicker, but you woke up one day and said no more diapers. You meant it when you said no more diapers. You don't nap with them or use them at night. It still amazes me. You have had a handful of poop accidents and maybe 2 or 3 wet pants but I think that is to be expected. Every accident was a mistake, either you couldn't get your pants off, had an accident in your sleep, or had an upset tummy. It has been over a month and we can go anywhere and not even have to consider bringing a diaper. I don't even carry an extra set of clothing for you. It is remarkable.

Food
Ugh, your eating habits are terrible. You want to eat Nutrigrain bars and drink milk all day. We have to basically force you to eat anything remotely healthy and you will throw yourself down on the ground having a fit when you aren't allowed a prepackaged crappy snack. I am wrong for even having them in the house.
Sleep
You are still a great sleeper and this month you moved to a big boy bed. Mommy found a great deal on a used bunkbed and couldn't resist. I know you are young to be in such a big bed but you love it and you were still in your crib which didn't make sense because you are fully potty trained. There wasn't much of a problem changing you to a big boy bed but you do kick up a bit more of a fuss going to sleep. No big deal we just stay consistent and you don't have a choice but to sleep :)

Speech
Your speech has come a long way. I don't know if anyone else understands you but I do, You are really able to communicate now and I get everything you are saying. For the most part it even makes sense....haha. You speak primarily it 3-5 word sentences now. You also use sentences with 6 to 8 words but not as often. You are still about 6 months behind in speech but progressing daily. Your receptive language is spot on you just seem to get your point across using as few words as possible. Daddy says he appreciates it and there is nothing wrong with a quiet guy. You FINALLY counted to 10. For some reason mommy was focused on this and it drove me crazy that you would just say one and then 3 and no other numbers. You still mix the order sometimes but you know the names of the numbers. You don't recognize written numbers or letters but you will get there. You have started to sing a bit but often get the order of the words backwards and just repeat what your brother is singing.
Development
You have known your colours and shapes for at least 6 months now, you have a word for everything and you communicate your thoughts and feeling pretty well. You have a vivid imagine and like to role play. You also like imaginative play games and talk a lot about monsters. You still aren't interested in dressing yourself but you can get your pjs and clothing off. You also like to put any shoes on you can find. You aren't able to recognize any letters or numbers yet but we just got you a leap pad and you seem to be interested in working on those skills. You have just started to sing a little bit and do sign "abcd" and then kind of repeat Fynn as he sings the song. Like I mentioned you can count to 10 and even know some bigger numbers you just don't always get them in the right order.

Fynn
Fynn you are still my moody guy. You still wake up from naps and often scream and yell at me. It is hard for you to shake it when you are upset and you have had your share of time outs. Luckily you have even more happy moments. You are funny and becoming more social with "the guys". Mommy started doing home daycare to supplement our income and you have really enjoying having the kids around (well 2 of the 3 anyways....haha). It is great to see you come out of your shell and make some new friends. You do not like it when it gets too loud and you prefer to be in small groups. Although you don't mind making lots of noise.
Food
Mommy needs to get better at introducing you to new foods. I think you get bored of what I offer you to eat. I get in a cooking rut and then you get in an eating rut. You love peanut butter on bread (not toasted as you like to remind me). I was shocked and disappointed in myself at everything you ate in Costco the other day. You were testing everything I handed you and loving it. It made me mad at myself for not insisting you eat more than I serve you. I must not push you hard enough because I never imagined you would eat the things you were lapping up. You also like snacks like your brother but also appreciate a meal a lot more than he does. You sit with daddy and I at the table and love impressing us with your "table manners'.
Sleep
I read my sleep post from 6 months ago and I am happy to say you consistently sleep through the night again. I don't even remember the stage when you didn't. Although daddy probably got up with you. You also got a big boy this month although sometimes you chose to sleep in Hudson's room on his new bunk bed. I have been saying it for a few months but I am really going to have to shorten your nap because bedtime is getting too late.
Speech
You never shut up. That sum it up....haha. You can count up to 40, you know your alphabet and colours and shapes. You sing songs, you can recite pages from your favourite books. You even know phrases and songs from your favourite tv shows (oops that is probably bad parenting, oh well). Your friends who started up ahead of you in speech are pretty much on par with you now. You consistently talk it 5+ word sentences.
General Development
Your brother potty trained himself this month and you refuse. You like your diapers and aren't as interested in change as Hudson. Hudson says diapers are for babies but you truly don't care. Although recently you have been leaving the room to poop and insist on a new diaper as soon as you pee. I think these are very good signs. As I mentioned we bought you leap pads for your birthday (given early so you can use them with ease on our trip to Florida) and you amaze me. It is day one with them and you can pick out certain numbers and letters with no prompting. You can recognize all of the numbers from 1-10 without hesitation and about half of the letters of the alphabet. You are also very good with numbers and shapes.

Well guys, next month you will be turning 3. I am both excited and scared of this next chapter in our lives together :)
I don't refer to them that way in my every day life it is just strange. I thought I would take a quick second to update things here because they seem to be growing and changing so much lately.

Hudson
You have changed so much this past month. Suddenly out of nowhere you are a total momma's boy and don't want to leave my side. No longer are you attached to daddy and I love the extra snuggles. I feel badly however that you often cry when I leave the room and that you are no longer as independent. I know it is just a stage but you used to be so confident and love to meet new people. Don't get me wrong you are still smiley and friendly but you don't like it if mommy is not close by.

Sleep
You are still a great sleeper and nothing much has changed since last month. Mommy is still letting you nap too long and this results in late bedtimes.
Food
As far as eating goes you really aren't a great eater anymore. That isn't necessarily a new thing but it isn't getting much better. You would love to live on snacks or more specifically popsicles and it is not a good thing. You do still love meat but you literally eat one meal a day and then snack the rest of the time. Summer seems to make things more casual and I feel guilty because I am a bit lax about letting you snack, especially when we have guests

Speech
You are still coming along but I still notice some deficits (sorry baby nothing major just noting things). Your receptive language is awesome and you follow story lines and t.v shows better than any 2 year I know. You have words for everything it is just that you don't always string them together. You also don't pronounce things as clearly as I expect but you are so adorable I love your little voice. You talk much more now, even when people are around. You are stringing tons of 2 and some 3 word sentences. You still aren't really counting, you don't sing and you don't really know your abcs but that will come.

Fynn
Holy cow you are blossoming. You are like a real little guy now. You communicate your feelings and wants so well. You literally get complete thoughts out and it makes life so much easier. You still test boundaries and unfortunately whine a lot but I love this stage. You crack me up.

Sleep
ahhhhhhhh.............you are driving us crazy. You literally wake up at least once a night screaming. Why??????? You even had a week where you woke up multiple times like when you were an infant. It is so frustrating.

Food
You are a great eater and you like trying new foods, especially if daddy and I are the ones eating it.

Speech
Like I mentioned you are talking up a storm and we can really communicate with you. You can tell us complex ideas, feelings and wants and it s pretty cool. You are also VERY demanding.....haha. This week you sang your first song. I didn't even really know that you were paying attention when I sang. However today you literally sang "twinkle twinkle little star" with your daddy and knew 90% of the song. You also complete lines in some of your favourite stories. It is so cool, I can read the first part of a sentence and you can complete the last 2-3 words. Eeek, it is currently 1am (I know I should be sleeping) and you are crying out. I don't get why that happens :(
As I mentioned in previous posts you can count to 20 and yesterday out of nowhere (well I guess not nowhere, again we sing a song that must have taught you this) you counting backwards from 10-1. My jaw literally dropped....haha.
They are still busy guys that love outings and keep us on our toes. They love the park, throwing rocks on the beach, and playdates with their friends.
Hudson
Huddy Buddy you recently had a growth spurt and when I picked you up from your nap you looked older to me.
Sleep-You are still a great sleeper, especially at naptime. Often I have to wake you up because you would be happy to have a 4 hour nap daily. We moved bedtime back so that we could do afternoon/evening outings but when you nap that long bedtime tends to get pushed even further back. You are such a cuddly guy and you love your blue blanket and sleeping with your teddy bear.
Eating-In the past few months you have become a snack monster and you try your best to exist on only junk. Mommy had to eliminate prepackaged (as much as possible) crap because that's all you wanted to eat. Not to mention your obsession with popsicles. You do still like meat but it is a challenge to get you to eat "real meals" in general.
Speech-You are talking a lot more and catching up. Although when we are around other people you often point to objects and are much quieter than at home. You now say Fynn's name (probably for the last 2 months or so) instead of just referring to him as brother. You have a ton of words and now talk in 2, 3 and even 4 word "sentences". You still use as few words as possible to get your point across though. You still don't really count to 10 although you do seem to know many numbers you just won't count in sequence. You do know most of your colours (red, blue, yellow, orange, pink purple) although you mix them up occasionally.
Fynn
Man are you ever talking, sometimes we miss the days of speech delay.....haha. You talk non stop and it is super loud. You also like to parent your brother which we are trying to teach you is not your responsibility.
Food- You are a great eater and seem to be eating all of the time. You will try new things and you just really seem to enjoy food in general.
Sleep-Ugh you seem to call out every night these days. We have to go in and settle you down. It is just a quick back rub or an adjustment of your blanket but it certainly not ideal. You also generally wake up screaming and are not very pleasant for the first few minutes you are up. You yell at us and often get upset. I wish we knew how to calm you down but for now we just give you space and you come around.
Speech-you are no longer considered delayed in speech (although I don't think you ever actually qualified for that). Like I mentioned before you talk all of the time. You count to 20, know all of your colours and shapes and boss mommy and Hudson around every chance you get. You aren't interested in learning songs though and although you know some letters you refuse to sing the song.
So I decided to finally hire a photographer to take the boys' pictures because although I take a lot of pictures they aren't always great pictures. I wish I had done it sooner but for some reason I could never get organized to make it a priority. Anyways the day started out terribly but the pictures turned out pretty cute. The day before Fynn fell and got a fat lip and the day of Hudson refused to get into the shot until we brought the photographers dog in the room. Not once did either of them break a smile but what did I expect from two boys that just turned 2....lol.
Wow, wow, wow, when did this happen. My boys are turning 2 tomorrow and I don't think I am ready for that. I thought the first year of their life was going to be the most challenging with the majority of the ups and down and it turns out I am in for quite a ride. Like others before me have said every stage (age) has its ups and downs and I realized that the first year was actually cake compared to the second. Both were amazing but very different. Actually the most difficult stage was from 14-19 months when the boys were fully mobile and into everything. They constantly tested boundaries and I had to worry about their safety ALL of the time. Now they are still testing boundaries but because they can comfortable go up and down stairs and get on and off of things I can take a deep breath (once is a while).
Hudson
Those long eye lashes, furrowed brows and adorable grin are impossible to resist. You are so darn cute and you know how to use that. You are strong willed and even though your brother might be a bit bigger and a tiny bit faster you NEVER miss a beat. You get what you want and often take what is your brother's. For some reason your brother's food and toys appeal to you and you can't resist taking them. You love to test boundaries and you have had your fair share of time outs in these last couple of months. You are also our snuggle bug and you love daddy. I mean LOVE daddy, if you had it your way you would be in his arms all day every day. You two have a special bond and it is so adorable to watch. You also love your blankets (not as much as your daddy of course) and I can you Linus because you love to drag them around the house with you. Often you even lay on the floor and snuggle up on your blanket to relax, pretty darn cute if you ask me. You can't get enough of water, you could play in the sink for hours, you are not happy when water play time is over. Holy cow you have a pair of lungs on you and you let us know when you aren't happy......lol. You love playing with your train table but it isn't good when your brother joins you. Somehow you always seem to want the same trains and an argument usually ensues. When you play with it alone though you have a blast and it is so fun to watch.
Sleep
You are still a great sleeper and you go to bed at night by 7pm and wake up anytime between 7 and 8am. You went down to one nap this year and your naps last anywhere from 2.5-3 hours. Actually sometimes I even have to wake you up so it doesn't interfere with bedtime. You like to sleep with your fingers through your blanket and unlike you brother you are happy when you get up and you after chat and play in your crib.
You love your brother and whenever you wake up or he isn't in the room you are looking for him. You literally say "brutha" thousands of times per day.
Motor Skills
You starting walking right around your first birthday and you have been on the go ever since. You like to climb almost as much as your brother and you love to press buttons.
Verbal
Your speech was a bit of a concern for mommy (I worry too much) and she took you to see a speech therapist. The speech therapist thought you might be a bit behind but she wasn't overly worried. We were offered some advice on how to encourage speech and given an option to do speech therapy. Right around that time you started talking more so mommy decided to wait and watch to see how you progressed on your own
My little wild man, you are still you own guy. You are independent but love your "brutha" at the same time. You bring him soothers if he is upset and you rub his back. When mommy asks you to share you are very good about letting your brother have a turn (Hudson is still working on that.....lol). You still whine but it isn't constant (unless you are sick). You are still incredibly busy and there is never a dull moment when you are around. You walk on your tip toes and because of that you have the most defined calf muscles of any 2 I have ever met. You are really into books and puzzles right now. Your favourite book is "I love Trucks" and you love doing puzzles with daddy. You can get pretty frustrated when you can't figure things out. You like to try to play with the trains but you often put too many in a line so when you go over a bridge they all fall apart. This makes you very upset and you generally launch one (or more) across the room. We are working on that. You love bath time and when we are all having a long day mommy sometimes gives you more than one bath just to keep you occupied.
Sleep
You don't seem to need as much sleep as your brother and although you also go to sleep at 7pm you wake up like clock work right at 7am (I am not complaining). Your naps are shorter than your brother's and you usually wake up after 1.5-2.5 hours. It works out fine though because you guys are in different rooms and mommy doesn't mind some extra one on one time with you. You aren't quite as adaptable as your brother when it comes to sleep in general. If we go off of our schedule you don't do well and often wake up in the night. Also if you are sick you wake up multiple times.
Motor Skills
You are very physical and don't have any fear. You climb everything and I don't really worry about you falling (although I worry what you will get into). A couple of times I have gone to get Hudson upstairs and come back to find you jumping on the pub table. I now make you come up with me because I worry for your safety. You and your brother are obsessed with daddy's coffee maker. You drag the kitchen chairs to the counter and press all of the buttons and insert the cartridge to make the coffee. Mommy bought you your own toy coffee maker but you weren't fooled and still wanted the real thing. You also have a huge fascination with the humidifiers in your rooms. You take it apart and splash in the water, it drives me crazy....lol. Another thing you love to do is push your step stools around and flick lights up and down :)
Speech
Your speech was also a bit behind but in the last week you seem to be saying tons and learning multiple words per day. It is like you are making up for lost time. I love that you are talking more because I am really learning how and what you are thinking.

We moved into our house in April of last year and we didn't have much money to decorate. We basically moved in, slapped a couple of pictures on the wall and that was it. With the boys' second birthday coming up and knowing we had almost been in the house for a year we started to start on their rooms. We are still on a very limited budget so instead of asking for toys and games for the boys (they have a ton) we asked for room décor. I really like how they are looking.

I found this awesome shop online and my sister gave the boys each a name plate for outside of their room for Christmas. I loved the colours so much I decided to use it as inspiration for their rooms. The theme of their rooms is now transportation because I didn't stick to the initial car theme.
I had the hardest time finding ANYTHING to cover these windows, for now they are just those easy fit shades in a beige colour but eventually I would like to get custom made blinds in a cool pattern. I am also thinking about doing some book shelves across the bottom of that wall
They loved playing with the balloons :) KChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08989150563618588708noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7135987533676549283.post-83508098881105445222013-09-23T12:33:00.002-07:002013-09-24T05:53:01.628-07:0019 months and barely hanging on Some days I feel like we are holding on by a thread. Yesterday was a thin thread day. Actually it was the scariest day since the boys were born. Fynn managed to break into our cleaning cupboard, that had a baby proofed lock on it, and drink a gulp of Pine Sol. Yep, not going to be winning The Mother of the Year Award around here. Please do me a favour and move you cleaning products to the highest shelf in your house. He is fine but it was terrifying.
I say it every month but my boys are busy and some might describe them as terrors. They climb constantly and find anything they aren't supposed to get into. They smash their heads into walls or the ceramic floor if I say no and have temper tantrums daily. Give me strength!!! When we go to the park all they want to do is throw rocks or sand.
Sometimes i feel like an abused woman. They hit me, they pull my hair and occasionally they bite me. This is not a fun stage.
I can't go to the bathroom without them loosing their minds and throwing themselves violently at the door. If I let them come in they try to put the toilet brush in their mouths and bang the baby proofed doors as loud as they can. They also whack me with the toilet seat by trying to open and shut it.Lets's not even get started on the toilet paper.
I can't even sweep the floor they scream to hold the broom, step in the dirt or try to eat the crumbs. When I feed them they throw their food on the floor, take the lid off of their sippy cups and dump it in the floor, kick the bottom of their food trays and scream bloody murder.
Even our sacred bath time is no longer peaceful. They are obsessed with taking the plug out of the bottom of the bath, they scream and throw fits if they can't play with it. They try to drink their body wash and I have to sit on the edge of the bath or they climb up and try to stand on the edge.
I take them out at least twice a day because if they are constantly stimulated they behave much better. Luckily they nap well and sleep 12 hour a night or I would be in an institute.
I know they are frustrated because they aren't able to communicate their needs so hopefully an end is in sight. Plus once their attention span is longer than 5 minutes maybe I can keep them stimulated in the house longer. They are physical guys and they are constantly on the go, what the heck am I going to do in the winter. Don't get me wrong I have drop in programs we can go to almost every day but without the park where will they get all of their energy out.
The boys have been whining a lot and if they don't like something I say they bang their heads on the floor or wall. NOT FUN!!!!!!!! I think it is their frustration with not being able to communicate and express themselves. Speech is still coming but not fast enough for them.
On a positive note they have had two great days with very minimal whining. Thank goodness because it was getting on my last nerve
Hubby doesn't make a ton of money and kids are expensive, plus I love teaching. So today when I made the final decision not to return to work I panicked. Up until now I have always seen myself as being on an extended maternity leave. However, now it is official, I have no job to go back to and it is damn scary. Teaching jobs here are very difficult to come by and I am risking my career to take another year off. We can't sustain the family on one income for longer than that so this is a bit of a risk. I had always pictured myself as a kick ass stong working mom that could balance both, ugh what a hard decision.
KChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08989150563618588708noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7135987533676549283.post-56974945255588776382013-08-25T18:11:00.001-07:002013-08-25T18:11:41.643-07:00Epic Fail!!!! So hubby had a very rare weekend off. He works at a Golf Course so he literally works every weekend so when he managed to score this weekend off we wanted to plan something special. We decided to head to Niagara Falls for a fun filled weekend. We loaded the boys in the car and headed out. They did a fantastic job in the car and we had an amazing day. HOWEVER, they refused to sleep in the very nice hotel room we booked. We are usually bargain shoppers and never pay retail for anything and this time we splurged. We got a two bedroom suite with a separate living room and it SHOULD have been perfect. Well, not so much. I should say that I am a schedule person. Not in my regular life but in my twin mommy life. The boys generally only nap in their cribs, I have made a point of not napping them in car seats or stroller and taught them to self sooth early on. The result is they are awesome sleepers. I can plop them in their cribs and they roll over and go to sleep (for as long as I can remember). They barely ever fight a nap and if anything sometimes we have to wake them up from naps so that bedtime isn't pushed back. So my first mistake was probably not napping the boys at home in the morning. Basically by 6pm we had overtired boys who had napped about 45 minutes all day (they usually nap about 4 hours). Our assumption that they would be exhausted and fall into their cribs was VERY wrong. They lost their minds and we ended up having to leave the hotel and 3am to head home. I am so sick about it because we had an entire day planned today and missed out on so much fun. Plus, what a waste of money.
Anyways, live and learn and we did make some memories.
I don't think we have had any major milestones this past month. Although you are using a spoon to eat your yogurt in the morning (still pretty messy but getting better on a daily basis) and drinking from cups. I have been dreading the 18 month milestone for some reason. It seems that suddenly there seem to be a ton of expectations and unlike in the early months some of them we aren't meeting, specifically language milestones.

Here is the list I have been looking at for language:

1. Understand the meaning of in and out, off and on?
I am actually not too sure about this one. The boys put things in and out of containers when we are playing together or when they are playing by themselves. However I am not sure if when I say "put the ball in the box" that they know the word "in" or if it is repitition. Honestly we haven't really worked with "on and off"

2. Points to more than 2 body parts.
We have been working on this for the past couple of weeks and they get feet 100% of the time but only point to their head and tummy about 60% of the time when I que them. Sometimes I say "where is your head" and they point to their mouths, eyes, or ears.

3. Use at least 20 words consistently?
Well they use about 15 sounds/words consistently although not every day. I would say in a day they probably use 10 of their words. Furthermore the "words" are more like sounds. Like mentioned in previous posts cookie sounds is just cook, or cracker is just crk (more like a sound). They still say dis instead of this, dat instead of that and call everything that moves a cark (car) or cruck (truck)

4. Respond with words or gestures to simple questions (Where’s teddy? What’s that?)?
They do point to things when I ask where they are but they don't say anthing. If I say where is the bear they will generally bring it to me or gesture over to it. They might on a very rare occassion gesture and say dat (that)

5. Demonstrate some pretend play with toys (gives teddy bear a drink, pretends a bowl is a hat)?
YES!!!! They do this :)

6. Make at least four different consonant sounds (p ,b, m, n, d, g, w, h)?
YES!!! This one too!!!!

7. Enjoy being read to and sharing simple books with you?
Well if by enjoying they mean constantly bringing me books, sitting on my lap, flipping 3 pages, pointing out some objects and then quickly running away then yes they love doing this

8. Point to pictures using one finger?
Yes they do point to pictures and when I say the name of the item they seem to nod or just look at me intently. They don't try to repeat it or anything. Although sometimes they will say book, truck, or car when I point to it but this is VERY rare.

Here are the 17 month milestones that we should have exceeded:

1. Uses a handful of words regularly
Well if we count sounds as word then yes. They do say ba (ball), cark (car), Cruck (truck), Crck (cracker), cook (cookie), dis (this), dat (that) etc. regularly. I would assume a hand full is 5 right

2. Responds to directions (e.g. "Sit down")
YES, we can do this !!!!

3. Dances to music
For sure they looooooooove to dance!

4. Enjoys pretend games
Is peekaboo a pretend game? If so then heck yah. They also like to bring my pretend food from their play kitchen and I pretend to eat it and pretend to eat it too. They like to put random things on their head too pretending it is a hat and thinking they are silly.

5. Feeds doll-I just tried when I saw this and they think it is hilarious to put a spoon up to their stuffed animals mouth.

6. Sorts toys by colour, shape, or size
Not even close. Colour, holy poop they don't have a clue what a colour is! Shape, well okay they do collect balls or cars and pile them up.

7. Likes riding toys
Heck yeah since they were about 10 months

8. Talks more clearly
Well it is all relative but yes more clearly than last month

9. Kicks ball forward
yep, but only once or twice ever. They are pretty coordinated though.

I know I sound like some crazy mom who is obsessed with Milestones and that isn't 100% the truth. I always say I just want happy kids and I really do mean that. I just want to make sure I am doing everything to facilitate their learning and if they need extra assistance I want to identify it early on. Anyways, I love these guys and they make me laugh all of the time. They play together really well and are real characters. As the months progress we really get to see their personalities emerge and it is so much fun.

The poor guy just hasn't been himself. Then yesterday the fever broke and he broke out in a terrible rash. About a month ago Hudson had the same symptoms and was diagnosed with Roseola. Today I thought the worst was over so we ventured to my parent's to welcome my mom home from England. Man was that a mistake. The boys were wild animals and basically ransacked their entire home, not to mention they threw multiple temper tantrum.
However, every day even the bad days are good days. I have my boys and nothing could be better. That doesn't mean I didn't want to rip my hair out and run away....lol.
I don't have babies anymore :(

This month really makes me realize that my baby boys are no longer, I have two toddlers and it is bitter sweet. I know this shouldn`t be a huge realization but it just clicked. I am very excited about what life has in store for us but I would be lying if I said I wasn`t a bit (or a lot) sad that you are growing up so fast. I think knowing that I can`t and won`t have another baby, like ever, makes it even more sad. Don`t get me wrong, I am not complaining, lord knows at one time in my life (not that long ago) I thought I would never have a baby so I appreciate every minute with my boys. I literally still cry (a little too often) when I am looking into my son`s eyes. I am actually kind of lucky (probably what I tell myself to hoping one day I actually believe it) because I cherished every second with my guys knowing I wouldn`t experience it again. However if I was younger and had some good eggs I would love to have more babies(I used to hate greedy people like myself who had kids and complained about wanting more).

Fynn
I am pretty sure you are going to be a total comedian. You are so funny to us already and you don`t really speak. You have comedic timing and squel with delight when you find something funny. You are sensitive too though. When your brother is upset you often walk over to him and give him your soother (and you LOVE your soother). You also love playing catch with mommy but take breaks to put your head on my lap or to climb up on my lap. For some reason you yelp every time I throw your ball to you, you think it is the funniest thing in the world.
This month we said goodbye to bottles. For the last little while we just gave you a bottle after your bath but we decided to try to eliminate it (I have heard you are supposed to ween off of bottles at 16 months). I started giving you milk with your dinner instead of water. Sometimes you do have a snack before bed but most nights you are fine with nothing. You eat everything I give you and you often walk to the pantry and try to help yourself to the cookies. You love to say cook (cookie) and crack (cracker) because those are your favourite snacks. I am so excited to hear you talk that I generally have a hard time saying no :)
As I mentioned in a previous post I freaked out a bit about milestones this month (and pretty much every month since you were born.....lol). The truth is you are doing wonderfully and as long as you are happy and healthy I am content to watch you learn things when you are ready.
You have become my real little buddy. We have always had a close bond because as you know you were a little fussy as a baby and I wanted to make sure I was doing my best to address your `concerns`but now that you don`t whine ( as much, let`s not get completely ahead of ourselves). However, now you come over to me not just when you want something or you are upset. You check in with me (often), you bring me things (often) and you come and lay on me (only for a couple of minutes but I will take it). When something is funny you always want me to see it and you always look over to see what I think.
Your favourite song is Ìtsy Bitsy Spider and you love to put the moon up with your arms and you even do the spider climbing up the water spout. You also know to rock back and forth when I sing `Row Row Row your Boat`. Another thing you love to do is run to your phone every time you hear me say hello, you pretend to call daddy.
I love you my boy, you are one brave, fearless, loving, caring and passionate little man.

For my record
I think it is safe to say that your speech is a bit of concern but as mentioned before we have a referral for the middle of August and the good news is that you are learning new words so we are moving forward at the very least :)
Words: dis (this), dat (that), gook (book), crack (cracker), cook (cookie), mama (milk), cruck (truck), cark (car), dada, dn ssss (downstairs), ba (ball), gog (dog), ess (yes), souss (soother)

Hudson
Holy cow Hudson you are the master of the meltdowns now. You have started to bang your head on the ground when mommy doesn`t give you what you want. You also try to hit your brother, yourself and money. You aren`t a huge fan of when mommy hangs out with your brother. Mommy tries to make sure we welcome you into whatever gave or activity we are planning but you generally want whatever your brother is holding and you grab it from him. When you are upset you are hard to console. I know this is pretty normal behaviour but we aren`t used to it from you because you have always been our buddha baby who just went with the flow. I am doing my best to make sure I put in some good Hudson time before I engage in a game with your brother. He isn`t really as interested in what you are up to so it has been helping a little. You still have the most amazing smile on the planet. Literally your entire face smiles, your eyes squint almost shut and it is so adorable it hurts. You also love your blanket and any stuffed animal you can get your hands on. You snuggle up with them and love them so much. It is the cutest thing I have ever seen.
You love singing and doing the actions to the Wheels on the Bus. Mommy had no idea you were taking it in (you used to just stare at her when she did it) and then suddenly one day when I was singing you just started to roll your arms and hands and beeping your nose. You smiled from ear to ear and you are so proud of yourself.
Your motor skills are developing well and today you and daddy practived screwing screws with your toy screwdriver on your mini work bench. I was amazed that you were able to do it.
You love bringing your cars over to me and making the vroom vroom sound. I have no idea how it started or why but it is funny You also make the most hilarious darth vadar kind of noise because you know daddy and I find it hilarious. Another thing that makes me laugh is that you bring me imaginary little items. Basically you come over to me like you have something in between your fingers and then you hand it to me, I say thank you and then hand it back to you. You find this very amusing. .
You are a great little eater but you seem to have one really large meal a day where you pack a ton away. You absolutely love fish and avacado this month, you shovel it in.....lol.

Your speech is also behind but you are also slowly learning new words and you certainly like to babble. You point out things and passionately tell me all about them. You also love the fan. You yell at me (in your language) until I put it on, it doesn`t matter how cold or hot it is in the house.
For my record
Speech: Dat (that), Up, bye bye, book, crack (cracker), cark (car), ba (ball), dada, wow, mama, gog (dog)
Although we still don`t do television mommy has been letting you watch more Baby Einstein Videos (probably even worse than t.v) lately. I used to limit it to one episode per day but now you probably watch 3 (20 minutes) videos per day. I have a bit of guilt about this but you love it and some part of me wondered if it would help with language aquistion.
I am not sure about anyone else but the babycentre updates that they email me stress me out. I stopped reading them for a long time because my boys never seemed to meet half of the milestones. They were crawling by 7 months, walking by 12 but as far as the other milestones go, we just never made the cut. Even though I know twins, boys specifically, are usually a bit behind and they were premature it still bothered me. I know my boys are who they are and as long as I am doing my best with them that should be good enough but I still worry. Like everyone says we all develop when we are ready and every child is different I just want them to be "normal". Whatever the heck that means! I wouldn't change them for the world so my worries are pretty counterproductive, but they are in my head just the same. Anyways, yesterday I went ahead and read the most recent email. Well now I am totally stressed out. My boys are supposed to be sorting shapes and colours, NOT EVEN CLOSE. They do go around making piles and moving them from place to place but they just gather all of the cars or all of the boxes (still sorting in my opinion). They should be colouring, using a spoon and drinking from a cup. Okay we have been working on this but it certainly isn't like they do these things unassisted. By the way who gives their 16 month old a cup with no lid without seriously close supervision? Hudson is actually really good at drinking and I can sit next to him and let him drink while I watch him closely (I actually try to hold the cup for him but he refuses). The problem is he gets distracted and if I wasn't there to stop him he would just tip it over. It's not the end of the world but I would prefer not to have to clean up water 5 times a day. When they colour their biggest focus is on how to eat the crayon, so I let them scribble for a second and then usually end up taking the crayon away when they start gnawing at it. They are definitely behind on the spoon thing again they just want to chew on it. They can scoop some yogurt on a spoon but end up putting the wrong end of the spoon in the yogurt and don't really notice how little they are getting and what a mess they are making. I guess it is all part of the process though. Let's not even talk about speech. Hudson literally only says 3-5 words in a day. They are suggesting that the boys should be putting two words together and should have around 20 words and should be repeating what I say. I know it isn't because I don't talk enough because I never shut up, I guess they just aren't ready. I feel like I am constantly narrorating our every move, including bowel movements (mine and theirs). I know it will all come in time, but like every mom I just want everything to be okay and to happen when it is "supposed" to.
Just for my own record here are the words they say (half of them I probably shouldn't even be counting)
Fynn: 1. ball (sounds like ba) , 2.dada (I don't think it means daddy he says it randomly), 3. downstairs (doesn't really sound like that but is starts with a d sound and is two syllables and he says it when he is at the top of the stairs and wants to go down), 4.book (sounds like gook), 5. car (sounds like cark), 6.cookie (sounds like cook), 7. cracker (sounds like crk), 8. milk (again doesn't really sound like it, more like mama), 9. This (dis) , 10. that (dat), 11. truck (sounds like cruck), 12. bye bye, 13. yes (although I am not 100% sure about this one because it just sounds like s), 14. Hi (well he used to say it and now he just waves) 15. Dog

Hudson: 1. ball (ba) , 2. dada (but not in the right context), 3. mama (milk), 4. bye bye (buby), 5. up (bup), 6. wow (although that might be him just practicing a sound) 7. baba (bottle) 8. that (dat) 9. car/truck (he mumbles something and points to both of them, it sounds like carunk) 10.dogKChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08989150563618588708noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7135987533676549283.post-58386556314423972492013-07-16T10:31:00.000-07:002013-07-16T10:31:23.726-07:00Infertility Support GroupMy friend Betty just started a facebook support group for women struggling with infertility. I feel like I just repeat myself every month but then I am mad at myself for not recording everything when I look back.

15 & 16 months
Fynn
We moved into our new house at the end of April and it took about 2 weeks to get settled in and for you to get used to your new room. You slept at Grandma and Grandpas for 2 nights and I missed you like crazy. You are so funny and you crack me up daily. Like every month I have to say you have so much energy and you are into everything. It took me 2 entire weeks to baby proof the house and you still find things to get into. You climb on everything and it scares the beep out of me. You have fallen off of the couch and every other piece of furniture in the house. I have a safety lock on everything but you still find trouble. You are so quick that you have snuck into the bathroom more than once and unrolled at least 3 full rolls of toilet paper when daddy forgot to secure the latch.
Daddy built you a little slide and climber in the backyard (it took him about 5 hours....lol) and you love going down it upside down and backwards. You also love swimming in our kiddie pool and sitting in your watertable.
Last Sunday was Father's Day and you scared daddy to death. We were at Grandma and Grandpa's house and you kept darting for their pool. You love swimming but you have to learn the safety rules! Work with me here because daddy already loves you so much that he worries about your safety so this isn't helping our cause my boy.
You are still walking on your toes bud but we got you some better shoes so hopefully that will get you walking on your feet. I have to say that I think your toe walking is so cute but I know it isn't the best thing for your legs and feet.
You are starting to talk a little bit but mommy wants to make sure she is doing everything to help you progress a bit faster. She has booked a speech referral just to get some tips. Currently you say: momma (very rarely and it could be milk), dada, book, ball, car, baba (bottle), byebye, hi and yes. Mommy has to remember that you guys were born early and that twins and boys generally talk a little later.
You love books my boy and I couldn't be happier. Mommy was waiting for this stage and I love it each time (about a million times a day) you sit yourself in my lap and flip the pages.

Hudson
Well my mellow guy is officially gone. You have been a bit "emotional" this month and we aren't used to seeing your "express" yourself so much. You are a master at throwing a fit and you fall on the floor sobbing and screaming at the drop of a dime. It is alway over small things and they don't last long but it is quite a site. You also love to follow your brother around and steal his toys or take whatever he has in his hands (bottles and food included). I think you are just showing your love and admiration for him......lol.
You have fallen in love with a stuffed bear that we call Monroe. You sleep all cuddled up with him and it is literally the cutest thing I have EVER seen. You are also more snuggly than ever before and it melts my heart. Nearly once a week I still find myself in tears because I can't believe how lucky I am to have my babies in my arms. I know other previously infertile moms say that they almost forget the pain of their journey but I have to say I think of it often
You have the cutest/funniest little bum ever. I know if you ever read this blog as an adult you will hate to read this but as a mom I have to mention it. It is squishy and looks unbelievably adorable when you march up and down the hallway after your nighly bath. Daddy and I get a real chuckle because you are so cute.
Your eating is funny lately and you usually have one big meal a day and then just peck at your food at other meals. Both you and your brother have picked up the bad habbit of throwing everything off of your highchair tray when you don't want it or are finished eating. It is NOT cute. We will work on that my boy.
You eyes changed colour this month. People told me after 9 months eye colour is set and that isn't the case. You and your brother were my blue eyed boys but yours have changed to a grey/green/hazel colour. They are beautiful and I love that you look even more like your dada (who has amazing eyes too).
This month we also had a consult for a little surgery that you will be having at the end of November. I can't lie my perfect baby boy I do not know how I am going to deal with this. I don't want anyone to cause my baby any pain and the idea of you hurting for even a minute makes me want to cry. I know that the doctors wouldn't recommend something you don't need but when we were in the hospital my instict was to wrap you in my arms and run out of there. I know that isn't rational but when it comes to my boys my heart takes over. Luckily daddy is level headed and makes me use my brain and stay rational.
We have our 16 month drs appointment next week and I am curious to see your measurements. You guys seem to be little peanuts compared to other kids your same age. Maybe mommy just sees you as babies.

So I know it goes without saying that I love my boys more than anything and I wouldn't change anything about them for the world. Okay, there are moments when I wish they were less adventurous and "spirited" but at the end of the day I love them for being themselves.
However, if I am being 100% honest with myself I have to admit that sometimes (like once or twice since they were born) I wonder what a baby born using my eggs and my husband's sperm would look like. I know this might sound ungrateful or senseless to some but I have to be honest. It's not that I want anything different than what I have with my boys. I could not love them anymore and I am 100% happy with how things turned out. My boys were meant to be my boys and if we hadn't gone through the egg donor process with my sister they wouldn't be here. I am forever grateful to her and I wouldn't change anything. It is just what I consider a nutural curiousity. I have a feeling people who adopt continue to wonder the same thing.
Anyways the reason I write this is because my sister is helping my mom put all of her photographs on her computer and she sent a picture of me at 6 months. I immediately started to cry (like full on weep) The first thing I saw in that picture was my son Hudson. I know this is silly and it shouldn't matter but I do see myself in him. People always tell me he looks like me but I shake it off. I think to myself "that's what everyone tells the mother". However today when I saw it too it brought me to tears. Okay, please don't think I am a narsassist or something. It doesn't mean I love him more or less. Fynn looks nothing like anyone in our family and I could never love him any more than I do. It just made me emotional because I thought to myself, maybe this is what my "egg children" would look like anyways.
Don't get me wrong I wouldn't have cared if my kids were a different race it was just a curiousity. I think a child takes on their parent's expressions, and traits and ends up looking like them regardless of how they came to them. We have family friends who adopted and at times in my life I thought they must have been mistaken because their children looked soooo much like them.
Anyways here is a picture, you might not see it but I sure do. Maybe it is just the eyebrows....lol
You really get around quickly and get into EVERYTHING. That has been the case for months but it still amazes me what you find and how quickly you find it. I am realizing that you aren't my babies anymore as you toddle around the house. You are more sturdy on your feet now but you still have your accidents. Hudson this month you seemed to have a permenant bruise on your forehead from one spill or another.
Hudson
Well you personality has changed a bit this month. You are still my happy smiley guy but you also have other sides to you. You like to follow your brother around and take interest in the toys he is playing with. You seem to have a stronger grip on things and often manage to "acquire" whatever it is he is playing with, much to his dismay. Then you throw an absolute fit if I give it back to him. Thank goodness we have two of almost everything! You love being outside (thank goodness the weather is finally getting warmer)and you love playing on the front porch. You seem to stay close to mommy when we are out in public although you love being around other kids. You make sure to check in with me regularly making sureI am not too far from you. Another thing I have noticed is you are a little hesitant about walking on sand at the park but don't worry you'll get used to it. You do like tasting the sand however......lol. Another thing that really cracks me up, although it is quite bizarre, is you digging in the couch cushins for crumbs and then eating them. You are keeping mommy on top of the vacuuming otherwise who knows what you would find in there. It cracks me up because I just imagine you going to visits a friend's house and bee lining it to their couch for a snack......yuck. I don't know why I find this so funny, it is just so random. You are really working on your talking this month and you are starting to say more "words". For now the only words I recognize as words are "Mama, Dada, Dat (that), Dis (this), Ba (Ball), Baba (Bottle), P (up), Yum.
Fynn
Man you are fast, and always moving, you literally run around the house all of your waking hours. You are an all or nothing kind of guy. You are either yelping with happiness or melting down with frustration. You want to be able to do what you want when you want. You laugh so hard when you are happy and squel with delight. You also whine a lot and patient is not a word I would use to describe you. You love sitting in my lap and are just taking a real interest in books (thank goodness because mommy has been dying for this to happen). You guys have been in a great sleep pattern for 6 months now but I think things are shifting slightly. We used to just place you in your crib after our standard 100 bounces on the yoga ball but suddenly you are fighting your sleep a little bit. I have a feeling you might be transitioning down to one nap a day but mommy isn't ready for that. You crack me up buddy because you are so wild. For the last couple of days we have been waiting out front for daddy to welcome him home from work and it is like rangling a wild animal. You have NO fear and want to check out everything. The other day we were in the park and you saw a dog. You haven't had much exposure to animals so I was very curious to see how you would react. You loved him, and went right up and patted him on the head and looked right into his eyes. I am glad you were comfortable but also wondered if this was a natural reaction. You got 4 new teeth this month and we sure did notice it more than in previous months. You guys are still very good eaters and basically eat whatever you are given (meats, vegetables, fish, fruit and dairy). You did seem to have a bit of a reaction to peanut butter (a rash) and because of grandpas allergy we will probably avoid it until we see the doctor next month. Mommy still gives you some formula but you have transitioned well to milk. You aren't quite as interested in talking but you are making lots of sounds and have a few words "Mama, Dada, baba (bottle), Ba (Ball)". I think your new found interest in books will help us catch up on the word thing this month.

I love you my boys and it is so neat to watch you grow and to see your personalities emerge.
Anyways, I hate what I saw. Don't get me wrong I think it would be awesome if that's what Khloe wants. I just hate that the conversation took place and in my opinion exploited Khloe. She didn't ever mention wanting a surrogate (I know this is a scripted show don't worry) and I hate that others are discussing her options. Maybe I am being hypocritical because I am sure my sister had a conversation with her husband before offering her eggs to me (actually I am not sure of that because my sister usually makes her own decisions, but she probably told him that she was going to offer). I also think that Scott's reaction was disgusting, basically saying it was disturbing and kind of gross (those weren't his words but his sentiment). Basically he acted really childish and not very empathetic to Khloe. Don't get me wrong surrogacy isn't for everyone but it isn't a joke and it shouldn't be thought of as weird. What I do remember him saying was "so your going to have a baby and then give them your baby", ugh are people so ignorant. He then said the classic, why don't they just adopt a child that needs a family (why does he get to have an opinion on how she decides to build HER family).
For some reason this makes me sooooooo mad! The boys have so much fun playing together now and it is hilarious to watch them. There favourite time of day to play is right before bedtime and I took this video to capture the moment. Well the boys are officially walking. Hudson has been taking multiple steps for a little while but out of nowhere Fynn decided he was ready too. He has been stepping on his tippy toes from the beginning and doesn't have great balance so we really didn't see it coming. He is fearless and wants to walk all of the time, he has lots of bumps and bruises to show for her new skill. KChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08989150563618588708noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7135987533676549283.post-20507893404679249932013-02-26T08:39:00.002-08:002013-02-26T08:39:39.604-08:00Should strollers be allowed in doctor's offices?Just curious what your opinions are. I am on a facebook forum for moms of multiples and one mother was not permitted to use her stroller in the office. She has 2 eight month olds that don't sit up on their own so she chose to leave when the doctor wouldn't make an exception. My feelings are mixed, on one hand I know how difficult it is to juggle two kids with no stroller in public but on the other hand I know how cramped and dirty offices can become with multiple strollers. What is your opinion? KChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08989150563618588708noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7135987533676549283.post-43515193824600083472013-02-19T07:04:00.001-08:002013-02-19T07:04:36.974-08:00The BIG one!!!!The boys are offically one and I still don't believe it. Holy cow that was a fast year but at the same time I can't believe life existed without them. We have had an incredible year filled with lots of emotions, ups and downs and tons of love and fun.
I failed a bit as a mom for their birthdays because I had a lot of plans that didn't happen but hey it was a great day and there is always next year. The thing is we have a tiny (I mean really small) house and we could never fit more than another family in here comfortably. So instead of hosting the party here we had it at Pizza Hut (I know glamorous....lol). We had less than 20 people (us and babies included) but it was the perfect size and the boys did really well. Fynn had one minor meltdown but that is to be expected, he has never really liked loud noises and lots of people and this was both. Hudson loved every second of it and probably would have partied all night....lol.
I had ordered the boys custom made birthday shirts from Etsy but they did not arrive in time (you would think 3 weeks would be sufficient). I ended up getting them little bow ties from Gap and they looked adorable. I had planned to make the boys their first cake, I had literally planned it in my head for an entire year. HOWEVER, I have NEVER made a cake and apparently it is harder than it looks. Okay, I am a disaster in the kitchen. Luckily I had done a couple of trail runs for hubbys birthday and came to the quick conclusion that this year I would purchase a cake. It was delicious and it all worked out. I guess we will just have to do a home photo shoot with a cake smash when the shirts finally arrive.
